All of us eat to live.
Some of us, live to eat… and scores of us are striving for a healthy balance!
Why do MOST DIETS FAIL? We are HUNGRY!
One of the keys to balance is Awareness!
These are some specific things we can be AWARE of when creating balance while DIETING. HOW do we FEEL FULL. How to feel ENERGIZED and CALM.
Let’s start with a little perspective. What is the purpose of your diet? Unless you are a body builder or competing in a triathlon five meals a day will throw your body out of wack. Remember we are keeping ourselves within the perimeters of a diet, so three balanced meals a day and a smart snack will keep you on track.
YOU SHOULD GET TESTED
Get tested for Diabetes, hypoglycemia, thyroid.
These disorders will make you feel like you are hungry. Make sure you are taking the proper steps recommended by your physician. Many options are available when you are aware of your personal circumstance.
LEMON IN WATER IN THE MORNING
You may have read this here before but I had to include it again because I truly believe in it. Waking up and drinking lemon water will get your body ready for a high protein breakfast. Lets not forget, Lemons have more vitamin C than your orange juice.
EAT A HIGH PROTEIN BREAKFAST
A well respected blogger by the name of Tim Ferris talks about how his father lost a “dramatic” amount of weight by eating 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking.
Eat a high protein breakfast as soon as you wake up according to research will trigger weight loss. The body burns fat in the morning and it is a great opportunity to curve your appetite and get the proper nutrition you need. In western cultures we are used to eating eggs and bacon but told to avoid the fat that is in bacon. I cook my eggs in the bacon fat, since it is a whole food. (Avoiding canola oil and other non organic oils will keep your immune system free of stressful toxins.)
I sometimes make hash browns in the bacon fat. This will also allow you to have helpful carbs instead of the empty calories in white bread. You can get creative by finding the different protein/carbs that fit your taste and lifestyle. Select a grain/bean rich in protein like lentils or cracked wheat.
AVOID WHITE SUGAR
As I became aware of the amount of stress I was putting on my immune system by consuming white sugar I began my journey away from the stuff. In the first week there was a shocking realization that I didn’t like how sugar made me feel.
I was thinking sharper and I was much more in control of my emotions. I craved better foods like carrots and strawberries that tasted way sweeter than before. In addition I was motivated to stay on track and be healthy. My appetite increased so I was able to eat sensibly and avoid snacking at late hours of the night.
Remove white sugar and begin to see your body respond to the sweetness of a carrot. Of course learn how to use local honey to your advantage as well as settle your cravings. Drizzle a table spoon over your fruit or your into your tea. This can fight off allergies as well as give a boost to your immune system.
DETOX IS A MUST
Detoxing is a great way to avoid being hungry before dieting as it kills the bugs inside your system that are asking to be fed sugar and processed white flours. Once your body is rid of these toxins you will not crave them. The perfect time for you to reset your body to absorb the balanced nutrition it wants!
AVOID JUNK FOOD
So clearly, avoid junk foods that induce cravings like packaged crap with artificial ingredients and oils. Eating these fats, salts and processed sugars trigger an alert system in your brain that make you eat more even tho there may be no need. This promotes dangerous behaviors like eating addictions. Sometimes you will be tempted but gently remind yourself, one slip can send you into a tail spin!
CONTROL YOUR STRESS LEVEL
Reducing Stress will allow you to deal with challenging situations like being on a diet. Meditating three times a day for as much as ten minutes will slow everything down around you and give you the sound mind to make better decisions as opposed to you rushing thru your day.
You may say to yourself, ” I don’t have an extra 30 minutes a day to just sit quietly.” I would say to you, “Make time, because you MATTER.” All we do is create time. We can wake up a bit earlier. We are doing this because of the desire to look and feel great. So make time!!
VITAMINS AND ENZYMES
My experience in dieting and detoxing has always taught me that quality is far better than quantity. If I have the quality of nutrients and balanced enzymes in my body I feel strong and energized, never hungry. When I use a combination of high quality products and foods I can sleep easier, wake up energized and think sharper thru the entire day.
These products allow your body to absorb the amino acids and vitamins in your protein more efficiently and more thoroughly. Majestic enzymes allow your small intestine to take in more nutrients from the meals you ingest in order to feel ENERGIZED and not hungry.
HAVE A FEW GLASSES OF WATER
Drinking plenty of water in between meals will keep you from thinking about food as well. There are plenty of other sugar free drinks that can be a substitute for water if desired. Sparkling water or Green tea is a good daytime option. I use garlic tea in the evenings while detoxing once or twice a week. I will bring water to a boil then drop some pressed garlic cloves, enjoy after letting the water simmer for 10 minutes.
GRAB SOME FRUIT!
Eating a healthy amount of fruits in your day will keep you not only away from feeling hungry but will keep you hydrated as well. Also, fruits make you feel fuller because they are voluminous. Paying a bit higher price for organic and or local produce may be hard to get used to at first but you will feel the difference in your body. It will become the clear choice and you will stick to it.
ENJOY A SALAD
Don’t be afraid of improvising with your salads at lunch but choose wisely! Calories do add up. Start with Dark leafy greens, add some vegetables and protein, grilled chicken, or a hard boiled egg. Toppings will add flavor and calories! Choose wisely.
ADD A BEFORE DINNER SALAD
Eating a small salad before dinner is also a good way to feel fuller and take advantage of the digestive benefits that doing so provides. Balsamic vinaigrette is always a good choice in a tasty salad as well as tomatoes and chickpeas. Adding in your favorite grilled vegetables will add flavor and nutrients.
REWARD AND REPEAT
Reward yourself naturally, after some time and commitment to your regimen has been reached. Make your own snacks, and desserts that are healthy. A trusted organic brand of Frozen yogurt, and gluten-free cookies can be a solid reward for your commitment.
Hummus and gluten free crackers will provide healthy oils, the feeling of “being full” all while being a tasty snack that you can add vegetables to as well.
