A workout is an important part of living healthy. But, if you sit down all day or lie down on a bed right after a workout, all the sweat in the gym will not be worthwhile as much as you hope.
We want to introduce 5 things you should avoid after a workout to maximize its effect and maintain a healthy body.
1. Eating Fatty food
Are you craving ice cream and pizza after a hard workout in a gym? Do you feel you need to be rewarded with your favorite food? Think again.
It is not recommended to eat fatty food right after exercise because fats slow down the digestion. It is better to eat nutritions that can be absorbed fast and help you recover from the exercise.
The carbohydrates and protein are what you need to feed the muscles and replenish energy. Bananas, greek yogurt, eggs, or protein shakes with fruits are the best post workout food.
2. Skipping Stretching
We don’t pay attention to stretching because you cannot see the result right away. Not stretching after an exercise can increase a chance of injury and limit the range of motion after the period of muscle contractions.
3. Sitting All Day
An hour of exercise does not excuse you for sitting all day! We cannot avoid sitting for hours when we have a desk job, but try to break sitting session with active stretching and simple core exercises. After an exercise, keep your heart rate up by keeping moving. You will maximize fat burning effect of the workout.
4. Not drinking enough water
It is important to drink more water than usual after your body loses a lot of it from sweating. Maintaining good hydration is a key to weight loss. You might choose coconut water which can help replenish electrolytes.
5. Sleeping less
Have you ever felt sleepy after a workout? It is a sign that your body needs sleep to recover. 7-8 hours of sleep is necessary to recover from fatigue.
What is your post-workout routine to help recovery and maximize the effect of workout? I hope our tips were helpful!
